Commuters in the Australian Capital Territory will soon find it easier to navigate public transportation thanks to a new partnership between Westpac and the ACT government. The collaboration centres around MyWay+, a smart transport system designed to simplify how residents travel and pay for public transport.
MyWay+, currently in development by the ACT government, aims to offer a streamlined commuting experience. With the MyWay+ app, commuters will have access to real-time updates on bus and light rail services, as well as information on accessibility at bus stops and stations.
According to a media release, the partnership allows Westpac to process Visa and Mastercard debit and credit card transactions for public transport, enabling “Open Loop” payments. This means that commuters can simply tap on and off with their debit or credit cards, avoiding the need to purchase a separate travel card.
Nell Hutton (pictured above), chief executive of Westpac’s Institutional Bank, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration. “We’re delighted to support the ACT government as it delivers a new transport system for the people of ACT,” she said.
The smart transport system is expected to be a significant improvement for ACT residents, offering more flexibility and convenience. Westpac noted their role in the partnership underscores the bank’s commitment to providing innovative payment and transactional solutions for its customers.
“MyWay+ will give people the flexibility and convenience of using their phone or debit or credit card to make payments on transport, rather than needing to buy a travel card,” Hutton said. “Public transport is part of the daily lives of many people in Canberra and we’re proud to play a part in improving the experience for commuters.”
More information about MyWay+ and the new features it will bring to public transportation will be available as the project progresses.
