The financial services industry is in mourning after the death of Blake Albones, a beloved figure who was known for his infectious humour, outstanding character, and unwavering commitment to his clients and colleagues.
Albones passed away suddenly on Tuesday October 10 at the age of 45. He leaves behind a loving wife, three daughters, his brother Mark and both his parents.
Albones (pictured above) had a distinguished career spanning more than 26 years in financial services, particularly in retail banking, mortgage broking, and aggregation.
He was a proven sales leader, rising from senior BDM at PLAN Australia to national lending manager and head of broker sales at Advantedge Financial Services. He also held senior positions at NAB, RateOne, MyState Bank, and Galilee.
His resume, while impressive, pales in comparison to the impact he left on so many people’s lives.
Neville (Nifty) Anitelea, a friend of Albones who worked with him at MyState Bank, described him as the “Shane Warne of our industry” – a lovable larrikin who could connect with anyone and who was always willing to share his knowledge.
“Blake Albones was a true inspiration to all who knew him,” Anitelea said. “He was a shining example of what it means to be a kind, compassionate, and giving person. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.”
“We will always hold deep in our hearts the beautiful memory of an amazing man – a bro, a husband, a dad, a mentor, a boss, a mate, a friend, a leader, an adviser, and so many more things he was to so many who knew his generosity of spirit, deep kindness, love, fun sense of humour and compassion.”
In honour of Albone, a GoFundMe page was set up to support Albones’ family during this difficult time. It has already raised over $100,000.
Former MyState Bank colleague and friend Huw Bough set up the page after people reached out wanting to provide support.
“Normally, we wouldn’t use Linkedin for this purpose but given extent of Blake’s network it seemed a great opportunity to assist the family,” Bough said. “It seems incomprehensible and devastating for so many. I know Mark and the family will value any support. It says a lot about the man with so many in the industry keen to assist the family.”
Bough said donations will go directly to Suz and Blake's girls, offering them some financial help during this difficult journey.
"We deeply appreciate any amount you are willing to contribute. If contributing financially is not possible at this time, sharing this message within your network would mean the world to us," Bough said.
"Let us unite in remembrance of Blake's spirit and show our support for the Albones family as they navigate the path ahead."
“Blake’s passing will be felt by many people in the industry, and our hearts go out to his family and friends,” said Antony Field, editor of MPA and Australian Broker.
