A non-bank lender and wealth manager has announced a new board appointment, naming a seasoned figure with over 30 years in the banking and finance world.
La Trobe Financial has welcomed Dr Bob Edgar to the position, following his retirement as the deputy chief executive of ANZ in May 2009.
During his time at ANZ, Edgar also acted as chief economist and managing director of strategic planning, including acquisitions and divestments.
His previous roles at the bank also included chief executive of Grindlays for South Asia, managing director of finance company subsidiary Esanda, and managing director of corporate banking and institutional banking. He was a member of the bank’s senior management board as well.
La Trobe president and CEO, Greg O’Neill OAM, highlighted Edgar’s “outstanding career” at ANZ and leadership track record over the decades, dubbing him “one of Australia’s pre-eminent bankers”.
“His extensive experience will prove invaluable as the company seeks to capture the growth opportunities that will be presented to us over the coming years,” said O’Neill.
“Our management team, business partners, staff and customers will benefit greatly from the skills and experience Dr Edgar brings to the board.”
Edgar himself has called La Trobe “a great Australian success story”.
“I am delighted to join the company’s board of directors and look forward to playing a part in its future success,” he said.
