Cameron Leggatt (pictured), CEO of Frasers Property Australia, has taken on the role of chair at the Residential Development Council (RDC), an arm of the Property Council dedicated to the nation’s residential development sector.

The development, which follows the re-election of Carmel Hourigan as president of the Property Council, will see Leggatt step into the shoes of Stuart Penklis, former chair and current CEO of development for Mirvac, who will continue his service on the RDC board.

Over the next two years, Leggatt will not only lead the RDC but also join the Property Council’s national board.

Advocating for housing solutions

In his new role, Leggatt aims to amplify the voice of the residential development sector to meet Australia's pressing housing needs.

“As a key voice in the housing debate, we will continue to champion evidence-led policies to address the nation’s housing supply and affordability crisis,” Leggatt said.

He stressed the significant role of the private sector in achieving national housing targets and advocated for systemic reforms to enhance housing supply.

Strategic priorities and experience

Leggatt brings more than 25 years of extensive experience in the property sector to his new role.

Since joining Frasers Property Australia in 2010, he has held multiple senior positions and has been instrumental in shaping the company’s development strategies across Australia and the USA.

Leggatt’s prior experience includes a significant stint as associate director at Macquarie Bank’s property division.

Continued focus on affordability and supply

Matthew Kandelaars, Property Council group executive for policy and advocacy, expressed enthusiasm about Leggatt’s appointment.

“We are thrilled to have Cameron’s strategic counsel at the helm as we tackle the housing crisis alongside the Residential Development Council’s experienced market leaders,” Kandelaars said.

He highlighted the urgency of addressing housing affordability and supply issues, especially under current economic pressures affecting Australians.
