“Every participant in the Adelaide Marathon can make a difference,” said Corey Drew (pictured above), general manager of Aussie South Australia.
Participants are invited to run an additional 1km after the finish line, with each completed mile providing four meals to those in need through OzHarvest, Australia’s food rescue organisation.
“For every runner or walker who completes the marathon and chooses to take the Aussie Extra Mile... Aussie will generously donate four meals per person to OzHarvest,” Drew said.
The need for food relief in Australia is at an all-time high, with 75% of charities reporting increased demand.
“Never before has the need for food relief been this great,” said Rachel Hibble, SA state manager from OzHarvest, underscoring the importance of the initiative.
Adam Taylor, SARRC club president, highlighted the significance of the partnership.
“The more extra miles, the more extra meals Aussie can provide,” Taylor said.
The initiative also includes a one-off donation of 2,000 meals to the first person who crosses the Extra Mile finish line.
Aussie said its commitment to community support is further demonstrated through the involvement of local Aussie brokers, who will be on hand to cheer participants on and help them complete the Extra Mile.
“An extra km can help us get four more meals to those in need,” Hibble said.
