Thinktank has appointed experienced banking professional Nathan McMullen (pictured) as the new general manager credit risk, reporting directly to Jonathan Street, CEO of the non-bank lender.
McMullen has over 25 years of experience in retail banking. He has a proven track record of transforming businesses through leadership in various roles, including product, digital transformation, and risk management.
He has worked in both local and international firms, ranging from small financial institutions to large corporations, both public and private.
Taking the helm as Thinktank’s new credit risk leader, McMullen told Australian Broker that he has some broker-oriented focuses in mind.
“My key priorities will be to further support the development of differentiated products and policies, with a focus on streamlining our credit processes,” McMullen said. “This will help to empower brokers to assist a broader range of commercial, SMSF, and residential borrowers in achieving their property acquisition, refinance, and equity release goals.
“Thinktank has a proven track record in helping brokers achieve the best outcomes for their clients and as the demand continues to grow, we will double down on strengthening our portfolio management oversight capability.”
Steering through a dynamic market landscape, McMullen acknowledges the potential of declining interest rates. He sees this trend as an opportunity to help borrowers reduce property ownership costs.
“While facing constant competition from banks and non-banks, Thinktank adopts a forward-thinking approach in identifying and introducing differentiated solutions to the market,” McMullen said.
“This is exemplified by our recent product launches, with more innovations in the pipeline.”
Before joining Thinktank, McMullen worked as the product lead for home lending at Great Southern Bank, where he managed the bank’s mortgage portfolio.
Prior to that, he was the head of product and growth for mortgages at ING, where he led the core mortgages product team with a focus on acquisition performance, financial oversight, credit risk appetite, and decision automation.
Throughout his roles as head of homeownership for regional and retail brands and head of product and digital for RAMS, Thinktank said McMullen consistently demonstrated his dedication to innovation and strategic leadership.
Street expressed his enthusiasm about McMullen joining the leadership team saying, “Nathan’s wealth of experience and proven leadership skills make him an invaluable addition to our team.
“We are confident that his strategic insights and expertise will contribute significantly to our objectives to drive innovation and excellence across the realms of product, policy, broker experience and the management of credit risk.”
McMullen’s appointment is effective immediately, and Thinktank stated it looks forward to the “significant positive impact he will undoubtedly bring to the organisation”.
The move comes one week after the non-bank launched two broker-exclusive commercial products.
