The third round of public hearings at the Royal Commission will begin on Monday (May 21).
This round is focusing on loans to small and medium businesses, looking at the current legal and regulatory regimes and self-regulation under the Code of Banking Practice.
The first topic to be discussed in this round is responsible lending to small businesses and will include case studies from ANZ, Bank of Queensland (BOQ), Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), Westpac and Suncorp.
The rest of the topics and case studies are as follows:
Approach of banks to enforcement, management and monitoring of loans to businesses
Extension of unfair contract terms legislation to small business contracts
The Code of Banking Practice
During the hearings, evidence will also be given by business owners and customers of their particular experiences together with other witnesses providing context for the case studies.
