National Finance Brokers Day (NFBD) is set to be held across the country alongside a charity drive that hopes to raise $50,000 for sick children.
Dino Pacella founded the day back in 2015 as a way to celebrate finance brokers throughout the marketplace and educate consumers at the same time.
NFBD will be held on 16 August this year with support from the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (
MFAA). As well as participating in events held in each capital city, Pacella is calling on brokers to help fundraise $50,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation – a charity that grants wishes to children aged three to 18 who have life threatening illnesses.
Pacella initially reached out to Make-A-Wish as a way for brokers to give something back to the community. Brokers who want to help out can do so directly through the fundraising page set up on the NFDB website.
“Brokers can create what’s called a sub-page off the NFBD page where they can create a morning tea, or have a raffle, or do whatever they want to do to help raise money,” he told
Australian Broker.
The foundation will provide support or guidance to brokers around this process, he added, whether around website assistance or fundraising ideas.
“All the funds that are raised will roll up into the main fundraising page so everybody can see the total tally. The idea is that however much we raise, we’ll give one of those big pay cheques to the Make-A-Wish CEO in Melbourne on the 16th.”
“At the celebratory event in Melbourne, we’ll invite a few brokers as well as consumers. During the two hour celebration, we’ll have a couple of success stories where brokers have helped in out-of-the-box scenarios for consumers."
While the main Melbourne event has been locked in, other state-based events are now in the planning stages. Additionally, a Facebook Live Broadcast will be streamed from the main celebrations which brokers and consumers can tune into on the day.
These events will be open to all brokers regardless of industry association.
Additional fundraising on 16 August will be done by financial donations either at the events or through the website. NFBD has also secured a sponsor who will be providing $10 for each consumer who sees a broker on the day.
“Either the broker or the consumer can put up a picture on the National Finance Broker Day social media pages with #makeawish,” Pacella said.
