Housing Australia has successfully approved 12 projects through the first funding round of two significant federal programs: the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF) and the National Housing Accord Facility (NHAF).
This initial step marks a substantial move towards addressing the nation’s housing needs, facilitating the creation of more than 240 social and 570 affordable homes.
Many of these homes are already under construction or nearing completion.
On Sept. 16, Housing Australia outlined an initial selection of preferred projects under the inaugural round of funding.
These projects are set to contribute significantly towards the ambitious five-year goal of developing 40,000 social and affordable homes, aiming to fulfill one-third of this target with more than 13,000 dwellings.
The preferred applicants have until June 30 to finalise their funding agreements, ensuring continued progress and adherence to project timelines.
The application period for the second round of funding closed last week.
Housing Australia is collaborating with state and territory governments to expedite the provision of social housing, targeting the activation of up to 5,000 social dwellings promptly.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to maintain momentum and continuously increase the supply of housing through additional market-based funding rounds expected to commence mid-year.
Scott Langford (pictured above), CEO of Housing Australia, expressed enthusiasm for the projects underway.
“We are delighted to be supporting the market to deliver more social and affordable housing in accordance with the objectives of the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility and the National Housing Accord Facility,” Langford said.
“These initial projects demonstrate the impact of partnering to bring capital and capability together to improve housing outcomes.”
