Heritage Bank director David Thorpe will be stepping down from his position after nine years of service.

Thorpe has been part of the bank's board for nine years, and was appointed a director in 2021. He participated in the Finance and Audit Committee, and has served as chairperson of the Risk and Compliance Committee since 2014.

He will be attending his last monthly meeting next week.

Kerry Betros, Heritage Bank chairperson, said Thorpe has been committed to the customer-owned movement during his time in the board.

"David was meticulous in his approach to the role of director and was always extremely well briefed and informed on the issues we faced," he said. "Heritage benefitted immensely from his wise counsel and deep expertise in the financial industry, particularly in his leadership of our Risk and Compliance Committee.”

Before joining Heritage Bank, Thorpe served as the CEO of the Queensland Association of Permanent Building Societies for more than 20 years.

Thorpe said in his time in the finance industry, he has witnessed drastic changes in terms of technology adoption, products, competition, and compliance.

"Two things stand out for me at Heritage Bank: the skill, adaptability and collaboration of the people, and the genuine customer service ethic of the board and staff.  These qualities in particular have made it a pleasure and privilege to be a director of the bank," he said.
