A career-long commitment to furthering the mortgage and finance broking industry has seen this Darwin-based broker bestowed with Life Membership of the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australian (MFAA).

Tony Schelling (pictured above) was the first member based in the Northern Territory, joining the industry from the world of banking in 1995.

Since that time Tony has been an active member of the MFAA and has built strong relationships, and championed the value of brokers with professional bodies, including the Real Estate Institute of Northern Territory and Australian Institute of Conveyancers, NT Government and ASIC.

MFAA CEO Anja Pannek acknowledged Schelling’s long and distinguished history of serving the Association and the industry.

“Tony has been a constant driving force behind the Darwin Member Forum, in addition to being a valued sounding board and support for our SA/NT state manager Wendy Robertson,” she said.

“Throughout his career Tony has supported new brokers coming to the industry with a philosophy of “if I can guide new brokers in the industry the industry will be a better place and better received by customers”.

According to Wendy Robertson, Schelling “truly exemplifies the values of professionalism, integrity, respect, trust and collaboration”.

“MFAA Life Membership is deserving recognition of Tony’s outstanding leadership, mentorship and advocacy, which have profoundly shaped the broking industry in the NT,” she said.

“He has also given remarkable commitment to the MFAA over three decades.”

Speaking of his time in the mortgage and finance broking industry, Schelling recalled being the driving force in establishing an MFAA Committee in the Northern Territory as a highlight and something of which he is proud.

“I wanted to be respected in my choice of career, I wanted our industry to be viewed as professional, and I wanted consumers – our clients – to be protected,” he said.

“By being part of the Association, the broking community in the Northern Territory has achieved that.”

Tony accepted his Life Membership of the Association at the MFAA National Excellence Awards held in Melbourne on July 25.
