The third annual fintech awards took place last night in Sydney, recognising 11 leading financial technology companies and featuring a keynote speech from The Hon. Scott Morrison MP, Treasurer, Federal Member of Cook.
Organised and hosted by Ashurst the awards celebrated new and established fintechs for their collaborations and innovations, as well as leadership in the sector.
Addressing almost 200 attendees, Morrison said, “Tonight is a celebration of achievement in a sector that I take incredibly seriously. I and the Australian economy are counting on you to be the pioneers in this area, so that 10 years from now people will look back and say ‘they started it’.”
Recalling the government’s recent work in the fintech space, Morrison added, “We simply, as a government, get it. We understand how what you do, as interesting and fascinating as it is in its micro operations, is far more important to us in terms of how it’s changing the rest of the economy”
