Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) CEO Ian Narev is set to discuss the important role brokers play in the national mortgage market while at Aussie Home Loans’ biennial sales conference next week.

The event, which will be held at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre from 27 to 30 August, is titled “Think” and is expected to draw in more than 800 Aussie broker staff. This has grown dramatically from the 200 who attended the first conference 10 years ago, Aussie chief executive officer James Symond told Australian Broker.

“We have held five biennial conferences over the last 10 years. They have evolved to become the mortgage industry’s leading event for the year, providing expert advice and the latest research to make our brokers and staff fully up to speed with market trends, combined with great learnings from a variety of experts,” he said.

The highlight of the event will be the Collective Wisdom panel featuring Symond, Narev and McGrath executive director John McGrath.

“Ian will cover the important role brokers, led by Aussie Home Loans, play in the Australian mortgage market and how they will continue to dominate the provision of loans in Australia by being the prime distribution channel for lenders – in Aussie’s case 22 lenders covering the vast majority,” Symond said.

The conference will also cover a range of talks and workshops covering topics on the current and future mortgage market. Celebrity speakers include comedian Magda Szubanski and rugby coach Ben Ryan.

Over 100 representatives from Aussie’s panel of 21 lenders and industry partners will attend the event, which will also include a gala night.

“Our 2017 conference will … arm our broker group with new skills and inspiration to provide the best mortgage service to Australians in cities and regional areas,” Symond said.

“There are a range of major issues facing the industry and it is important the key players like Aussie inform our network and partners about them and provide a path for them to grow further.”
